January and February: Ice Skating Parties in the Nature Center, as conditions permit. To be on our email event notification list, send an email request to or watch for skating party announcements on the town electronic bulletin board at the corner of Hardenburgh & Piermont.

February 11: Birdhouse and Bird Feeder Building Day, in the Demarest Train Station. From lOam until lpm. Kits are $15 for one and $10 for each additional kit, per family. Participating children need to be accompanied by an adult. And remember to bring vour hammer and your camera!

March 26: Easter Egg Hunt with the Easter Bunny! 2 pm in the Imaginative Playground near Wakelee Field. Bring your toddlers through 4th graders for some yummy fun and great photo ops. Rain date March 20th.

April 22: Nature Walk & Volunteer Day. At 9:30 Naturalist Marc Gossen will lead our walk through the trails, as we spot signs of Spring in the flora and fauna. Followed by Volunteer Day at 10:30. Wear long pants and bring your gardening gloves. We’ll be cleaning up litter and doing light trail maintenance. Meet at the Wakelee Field Playground parking lot for either or both event(s). Rain date, only if extreme weather on Saturday, Sunday, April 23rd.

June 5: DNC Photo Contest Deadline. Deposit entries at the Demarest Free Public Library in our Basket. All photos must be taken in the nature center. See our website for contest details. Awards to be announced at the Breakfast in the Woods, Saturday June 10th.

June 10: Breakfast in the Woods Fund Raiser! Offering breakfast to current members of the Demarest Nature Center. Send in the enclosed membership envelope today! Memberships can also be purchased at the breakfast for as little as $20 for the whole family. Serving custom made omlettes, coffee, fruit, bagels, OJ, and cereal from 9am to 11am, next to the Imaginative Playground in Wakelee Field. Photo Contest Winners will be announced at 10am, followed by a FREE live animal show. Rain date Sunday June 11. Not sure if you’re a current member? Send an email to to find out.

September 16: The Annual DNCA Dog Walk through the Demarest Nature Center. All area dogs and their “leashed” masters are welcome for an easy hike leaving from The Duck Pond flag pole at 10am (return before 11:30am). No unleashed dogs will be allowed.

October 14: The Craft Show At Oktoberfest at the Duck Pond 10am to 5pm. Treats for all your senses — German music, inflatable rides, Korean and German foods. Plus a wide rane:e and variety of handmade crafts. Rain date, October 15th.
